July 9 - July 20, 2012
Professional Training for High School Students
The CRY HAVOC Summer Playwriting Intensive provides high school students interested in writing for the stage the opportunity to interact with professional playwrights, actors, and directors as they learn the fundamentals of playwriting.

In this two-week intensive at CRY HAVOC's midtown rehearsal and performance studio, students will be guided through the process of writing their own short play - from conception to first draft, through rewrites to final product. Throughout the process, they will work closely with CRY HAVOC's award-winning Resident Playwrights.

Additionally, they will interact with CRY HAVOC's corps of actors and directors - professionals who have appeared on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and at major theaters around the country - who will provide their perspective on working on new plays.

The class will culminate in a public reading and discussion of the students' short plays featuring professional actors from the CRY HAVOC Resident Company.
Schedule

Classes will generally meet from 10:00am-4:00pm Monday through Thursday and 10:00am-1:00pm on Friday. A special schedule will pertain on the Monday of the 2nd week of the session to allow the students to participate in CRY HAVOC’s regular weekly Workshop group focused on new play development, where their plays will be read and discussed by CRY HAVOC’s corps of professional actors, playwrights, and directors. A public reading of the students' short plays, featuring actors from The CRY HAVOC Company, will be held for family and friends of the students on the evening of Thursday of the 2nd week of the session.
