What are we working on?

This is a work in progress. CRY HAVOC has always relied on transparency in our development process, bringing our artists and our audience to the table as we develop new work— and new approaches to our work. In pursuit of that mission— and in order to develop policies and practices that are inclusive, responsive, and transparent— we will be posting periodic updates to this statement based on feedback from our artists, audience, and community— and incorporating the evolving vocabulary and values of justice and anti-oppression. We hope that you will take the time to read and participate in the evolution of this statement; it is our most important development project yet.

The CRY HAVOC Company founding motto: RAW. PROVOCATIVE. HUMANE.

Commitment to these values demands that CRY HAVOC prioritize equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice in our policies, practices, and creative work:

RAW

There is rawness to the way we undertake a creative process— bringing our community and audience inside the development of work that is unfinished. This values statement will reflect the same approach, as it is meant to be the beginning of a larger conversation. We will make room for uncomfortable conversations  in our creative and leadership spaces— acknowledging that progress demands another kind of rawness: transparency about the ways in which our growth is ongoing— and unfinished.

PROVOCATIVE

CRY HAVOC has long championed dramatic work that is provocative. But provocation for its own sake has no inherent value. We pledge to use our educational, creative, and developmental tools to provoke conversations among diverse groups. We will provoke thought and action in our community by supporting work that addresses issues of injustice, inequality, and values the voices of artists of many backgrounds. We will seek out collaborators and colleagues that will provoke a continuing re-examination and re-evaluation of our approach to theatrical work.

HUMANE

We commit to building a community of inclusion that values the humanity of all of its members. We will confront a status quo that is inhumane for so many by seeking out and amplifying underrepresented voices. To that end, we have developed a series of company policies to affirmatively state our pledge to support historically marginalized members of our community:
